More Vacation- Day One

When we got to the condo we went to get groceries and bait. We got live shrimp and I was putting them in the bucket and tying it to the dock. Cooper was watching me do this and fell into the channel. She was NOT happy that her clothes got wet. Luckily she has figured out swimming this summer and swam right up to the top and I leaned over and yanked her out. (This is also a partial view of the enormous house across the channel from the condo to your left from the corner.)

One of the fun things to do at my sister's condo is to fish at night. We set up a light on the corner of the channel and catch little fish. Cayden was fishing alone right around the corner off the back of my brother-in-law's boat. He screamed that he caught something and then screamed that it was a snake! It was actually an eel. This was as close as we could get him to the eel for a picture. It really scared him. I thought he'd never fish again let alone go near the water! After a few minutes he was right back in the bait bucket, just feet from where he caught the eel, and fishing like it never happened. (The eel was a really interesting and disgusting creature. It looked and moved like a snake, even tying itself in a knot like a pretzel at one point, but had gills and fins like a fish. We did not touch the eel to get the hook out but after watching it for a long time cut the line and watched him slowly float away. We don't think he made it!)

Stephanie Chambers came over to visit us this night and had frozen pizza with us and got to be there for the whole eel situation. We were glad to have a witness.

After Cooper falling in and the eel incident we were not sure what kind of vacation we were in for. It was smooth sailing from that point on- except for the 1 foot X 1 foot first degree burn Scott got on his back at the beach the next day!
