Cayden and I have been playing Jenga lately. It is a fun hand-eye coordination game. At first, I thought I would go easy on him. Then he beat me five games straight. He's actually pretty good. No more mister nice guy!Monday, April 28, 2008

My How Times Change
A while back I had to get to school early to attend a training session. It was a training on "lock downs" and what to do in the event of a school shooter. I was telling Cayden that we had to leave early the next day so I wouldn't be late. He asked me what for and I told him that it was to watch a movie about what to do if a bad person came to school. My then five year old said to me, "Oh, you mean like a soft lock out?" I asked him if he meant lock down and he said, "Oh, yeah, lock down." He then told me about how they had a soft lock down at his school one day when there had been a guy the night before at a nearby Walgreens with a gun that had not been found yet. (We knew this but did not realize that he knew this.)
Today he was watching Air Bud. In the movie the little boy's dad isn't around. They show a picture of the boy with his dad several times but he is not in the movie. I asked Cayden where his dad was and he replied, "I guess Iraq."
When I was a kid we went to school and then played outside until dark with all the other neighborhood kids. I don't remember worrying about war or lock downs or school shooters.

The Office Obsession
As some of you may know, Scott and several of his friends have an obsession with the sitcom, The Office. I have to admit I like the show too.
Several times our kids have referred to the characters by name as if they were real people. Today after church Cooper was holding two babies. It was really funny because she would kind of boost them both up at the same time as if they were getting too heavy- like I have done many times. Scott was asking her about her babies and she said they were twins and their names were Michael and Scott. If you don't know who they are then you need to tune in to The Office this Thursday night at 8:00 pm!

Central Texas Foods
Yesterday morning I was asking Cayden what he wanted for breakfast. He said waffles and the only ones we had in the freezer were the Belgian or "Belton waffles", as he calls them. The past few mornings he has eaten cinnamon toast made on Texas toast. As i got out the big, fat Belgian waffle he looked at it and asked me if it was "Temple Toast."
So, if you are ever in the area we have lots of local favorites you could try for breakfast!

Wheels!
The pic is a couple weeks old...but, here are the BIG BOY and BIG GIRL bikes that the twins are riding now (and the moment they first saw them.)The other pictures are of their first trip on their new rides. I guess you don't really appreciate it unless you have twins but there was something really cool about two kids riding their bikes for the first
time, together!
